DEATH AND A FUNERAL
A close friend of mine once said, “I was prepared for my parents to die. I just wasn’t prepared for them getting older.”
For me, as my Mom’s Caregiver, I am living the “getting older” up close and in person.
In between Blog stories, my Father died. It has been a very long 3 weeks from Hospice Care to the Funeral Services but…
Caregiving never stops!
My Mother is fine. My parents have been divorced most of my life and with me as her Caregiver, my Mom is well taken care of. Even now.
I am emotionally, mentally, physically, and socially exhausted but…
“The Beat goes on…History has turned the page, ah-huh. La-de-da-de-da, la-de-da-de-da”
I don’t have time to celebrate a life, grieve or give the events of the last few weeks a second thought. Never mind rest or take any time for me. My Mother wakes up every day with the exact same Caregiving needs as the day before.
Even those little things that she can do for herself or possibly live without for the moment, have to be done.
“The cars keep going faster all the time. Bums still cries, “Hey Buddy, have you got a dime?” And the Beat Goes On, the Beat Goes On.”
The World keeps turning and I can’t keep up. I’ve been trying to catch the life I used to know to no avail. And now, I’m trying to stop the thoughts whirling in my head as I attempt to keep up with all of my Caregiving duties.
The fact remains, if I don’t do it now, I will have to do it later.
Caregiving does not end due to Death and a Funeral.
