BEFORE & AFTER HE WAS PRESIDENT

BEFORE HE WAS THE PRESIDENT…

Before he became the 40th President of the United States, Ronald Reagan was President of SAG-AFTRA, the Actor’s Union.

In a Historical move on July 14, 2023, Hollywood went dark as both the Writers’ (WGA) and the Actors’ (SAG-AFTRA) Unions are now on Strike.  This is the first Double-Strike of the 21st Century and the first of a lifetime for the majority of the members of both Guilds.

The last time that both Unions went on Strike was in 1960. Ronald Reagan is credited with being a major force in the resolution ending that Strike.

Charlton Heston and Ronald Reagan are pictured leaving the negotiating meeting that ended the 1960 “Double Strike.”

After he was President…

Nancy Reagan, the former First Lady of the United States, appointed herself as his primary Caregiver when President Reagan was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 1994.  She fulfilled the duties of Primary Caregiver for 10 years from 1994 until his death in 2004.  The Actress, Nancy Davis, whom Ronald Reagan met while fulfilling his duties as SAG-AFTRA President played the role of Caregiver in real life on-screen before an entire Nation.  As a Caregiver, she gave new meaning to the phrase, “Hail to the Chief!”

Standing in solidarity with the Guild Members on Strike for the purpose of “Protecting our Creative Art,” the Blog contains no newly written material and instead features a Podcast Episode from “A Caregiver’s Conscience.” Podcast Episodes are produced using previously written and published Blog stories.
