THIS CHRISTMAS
“& this Christmas will be a very special Christmas for me…”
That’s a line from a song which many, many Artists have recorded. And although, I may sing the song every year—this year—that line had a very special meaning.
This is not the first year that I celebrated Christmas as a Caregiver, but this Christmas was special.
First of all, I broke my own Caregiver rule and hosted. I prepared the “Feast of the 7 Fishes” single handedly. I do love to cook, so I found tremendous joy in preparing the special meal for my Family. I used paper plates and inexpensive serving dishes in an effort to reduce the number of dishes washed but we did use real silverware and glasses. LOL.
From the appetizers to the main course, the meal received rave reviews. And there were limited leftovers so preparing 3 Meals a Day is now right back on the Caregiving Agenda.
My Brother drove in from New York and I was reminded that I am not an only child. I do have a Brother who loves me and appreciates all that I do as our Mother’s Caregiver. I just don’t always feel it because he doesn’t always share it. His presence made this Christmas a very special Christmas for me.
We exchanged gifts that had meaning and were expressions of love and not just presents from a store.
My Brother’s appearance was a surprise for our Mom and she was overjoyed and very excited. The expression on her face when he walked in the door was priceless.
Laughter, Music and the musings of Scrooge from “A Christmas Carol’ were the Soundtrack of the day.
At the end of the day—when all the Guests had gone, and it was just my Mom and me…
She gave me a Hug and said, “Thank You!”
“Thank you for the day. Thank you for getting your Brother to come. Thank you for the delicious dinner. Thank you. You did a good job!”
Christmas 2024 was a very special Christmas for me.
It seems that Santa gave me just what I needed!
